LOS ANGELES, May 12 (UPI) -- Glee fans will have to wait until next year for the show's sixth and final season to air.

Fox's Chairman of Entertainment Kevin Reilly confirmed the news to E! Online after the broadcasting company left the series out of its fall schedule.

"It will be its last season, for sure," Reilly reiterated of Glee's upcoming season, adding that while producers originally ordered 22 episodes, the number might go down.

"The order is currently for 22, but we're actually going to sit down with Ryan Murphy and really talk about how we're going to end it and figure that out," he said. "We're going to sit down and talk about exactly the best way to end the show now and how much that is."

As for the long wait fans will have to endure until Fox airs new episodes, Reilly said there would be a silver lining.

"When it comes back in the second half of the season, that will also air all of their episodes in a row," he disclosed.
