NEW YORK, May 10 (UPI) -- Comedian Larry Wilmore is set to replace Stephen Colbert as host in the time slot immediately following The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on Comedy Central.

Colbert announced in April he was departing the network to take over for David Letterman on Late Night in 2015.

The Colbert Report will be replaced by The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore in January 2015, Comedy Central announced in release Friday.

"Wilmore will take over the highly-coveted post-Daily Show time slot in January 2015 as host of The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore, a comedic look at news, current events and pop culture from unique perspectives not typically on display in late night television," the release said.

Wilmore and Stewart will executive produce the television show.

"While Larry Wilmore is a brilliant comic and showrunner, this is all just a complicated ruse to get him to move to New York and turn him into a Knicks fan," Stewart said.

"I'm beyond excited to have this chance to continue my relationships with Comedy Central and the brilliant Jon Stewart. I love the city of New York and promise to only wear my Laker T-shirts when I'm layering," Wilmore said.
