Jimmy Kimmel gets 2-year contract extension from ABC

LOS ANGELES, May 7 (UPI) -- Late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel has extended his contract with ABC, agreeing to keep his Jimmy Kimmel Live! program on the network until 2017.

Now in its 11th season, the show airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. In addition to being a ratings hit, the program also is famous for its celebrity-packed comedy videos, which frequently go viral on the Internet.

The announcement of Kimmel's contract extension comes after months of changes have shaken up the late-night television landscape. Jimmy Fallon recently replaced Jay Leno as host of NBC's The Tonight Show, while Seth Meyers took over Fallon's Late Night series. Soon after, David Letterman announced he would retire from CBS' The Late Show next year. Stephen Colbert will replace Letterman, leaving his own Comedy Central program, The Colbert Report.

Craig Ferguson also said he would depart CBS' The Late Late Show at the end of 2014, but no replacement for him has been announced yet.
