NEW YORK, April 29 (UPI) -- The Today show plans to host a Little House on the Prairie reunion.

Eight original cast members will reunite for a special episode of the morning program. It has been confirmed that Melissa Gilbert, who played Laura Ingalls, and Alison Arngrim, who played evil character Nellie, are two of the actors who will attend.

Little House on the Prairie had a nine-season run from 1974-1983 on NBC. The series is loosely based on the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, but features characters and plot lines not found in the novels.

The show follows farmer Charles Ingalls (Michael Landon), his wife Caroline (Karen Grassle), and their four daughters, Mary (Melissa Sue Anderson), Laura (Melissa Gilbert), Carrie (Lindsay and Sidney Greenbush) and Grace (Wendi and Brenda Turnbaugh), as they live on a farm in Walnut Grove, Minn. in the late 1800s. Other characters include general store owners Nels (Richard Bull) and Harriet Oleson (Katherine MacGregor) and their spoiled children, Nellie (Allison Arngrim) and Willie (Jonathan Gilbert).

"It's going to be fun," Today host Kathie Lee Gifford promises. The Little House cast members reportedly will share some big news on the episode.

The Little House on the Prairie reunion will take place on the Today show Wednesday, April 30.
