Sarah Silverman to join 'Masters of Sex' cast

"Masters of Sex" is based on the work of real-life researchers Dr. William Masters and Virginia Johnson.

LOS ANGELES, April 29 (UPI) -- Sarah Silverman has joined the Masters of Sex cast.

The 43-year-old actress and comedian has secured a recurring role on the upcoming second season of the Showtime series. She will appear as Helen, a lesbian who still pines for her former lover Betty (Annaleigh Ashford). Helen is also a self-professed psychic and palm reader.

Masters of Sex is based on the 2009 biography Masters of Sex: The Life and Times of William Masters and Virginia Johnson, the Couple Who Taught America How to Love. The series tells the story of Dr. William Masters (Michael Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan), two researchers who were pioneers in the field of human sexuality for over three decades.

The second season of Masters of Sex debuts July 13 on Showtime. Silverman will next appear on film in A Million Ways to Die in the West on May 30.
