'12 Years a Slave' wins four awards at NAACP Image Awards

PASADENA, Calif., Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Kevin Hart was named Entertainer of the Year at the NAACP Image Awards held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in California, the event organizers said.

Hart dedicated the prize to his mother, who recently passed away, Variety reported.

Steve McQueen and writer John Ridley won for their work on "12 Years a Slave," which won four awards, including actor in a motion picture.

Forest Whitaker and David Oyelowo were also honored for their roles in "Lee Daniels' The Butler," and Whitaker was also honored with the NAACP Chairman's Award.

Hart and the BET show "Real Husbands of Hollywood" won the TV comedy award. Kerry Washington and Joe Morton also won for their work in ABC's "Scandal."

The awards were held Saturday night and were hosted by Anthony Anderson, Variety said.
