Gadhafi documentary to air on Showtime in April

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- U.S. cable network Showtime says it plans to air the documentary "Mad Dog: Inside the Secret World of Moammar Gadhafi" April 11.

Showtime said in a news release Wednesday the 90-minute film "takes viewers on a worldwide journey, gaining exclusive access and interviews with palace insiders and those who gave shape to Gadhafi's dark dreams."

"They include a fugitive from U.S. justice who helped Gadhafi kill his enemies worldwide, and was a major supplier for the dictator's international terror enterprise; Valerie Plame, the famous CIA operative; the widow of the Libyan foreign minister whose body Gadhafi kept in a freezer; the American businessman who supplied Gadhafi with lethal poisons; a female bodyguard who adored him until she saw teenagers raped and executed, as well as Gadhafi's German rocket designer and sometime confidante," the network said. "Their collective stories represent a unique and rare close-up glimpse of a brutal and contradictory, yet sometimes vulnerable dictator -- a dictator who kept the world continually fascinated for the more than 40 years he occupied the international stage."

Gadhafi was a Libyan revolutionary and politician, and the de facto ruler of Libya for 42 years. He was killed by rebels in 2011. He was 69.
