Drake Bell, former Nickelodeon star, files for bankruptcy

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Drake Bell has filed for bankruptcy, court documents indicate.

E! News said Thursday the former Nickelodeon star requested Chapter 7 protection in May 2013, noting he owns $1.575 million in real estate and $10,500 in personal property, but has debts of about $2.166 million.

Bell, 27, said he owes more than $46,000 to the IRS and has monthly expenses that total more than $18,000, but makes an average of $2,820 a month.

Bell recently competed on the diving competition series "Splash," and will next be seen in the films "Jungle Shuffle" and "L.A. Slasher," E! said.
