LOS ANGELES, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Veteran actress C.C.H. Pounder has been recruited to play a medical examiner in the pilot for a new "NCIS" spinoff, the Hollywood Reporter says.

The cast also includes Scott Bakula, known for his roles in "Quantum Leap" and "Star Trek: Enterprise," and Zoe McClellan, who starred in "JAG." The two-part pilot is to air this spring, embedded in one of the two existing series.

Pounder, 61, has a long resume, including "St. Elsewhere," "The Shield," "Sons of Anarchy" and the Oscar-nominated science fiction hit "Avatar." She was born in Guyana, spent some of her childhood in England and has spent most of her adult life in the United States.

The two series already airing feature the adventures of U.S. Navy investigators in Washington and Los Angeles.
