Red Hot Chili Peppers to perform during Super Bowl show

NEW YORK, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Bruno Mars has invited the rock group Red Hot Chili Peppers to join him during next month's Super Bowl halftime show in New Jersey, the NFL announced.

The professional football championship game is to be played Feb. 2 at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.

"The Pepsi Super Bowl halftime show is the most-watched musical event of the year," the NFL said in a news release Saturday.

"More than 110.5 million viewers in the U.S. watched last year's show. The Super Bowl and halftime show will be broadcast worldwide. Bruno Mars joins an esteemed list of recent halftime acts that includes Beyonce, Madonna, The Who, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and U2."
