BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Workers used giant fans and vacuums, and cut new sections of red carpet, to repair the sprinkler-soaked entrance to Hollywood's Golden Globes Awards ceremony.

Variety said maintenance staff worked feverishly to fix the problem before the stars began arriving for the show at the Beverly Hilton Sunday afternoon.

The shower started when a sprinkler in the roof outside the hotel lobby went off after a TV crew bumped it with a light fixture, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.

Journalists have since been allowed to assume their positions along the red carpet to cover the celebrity arrivals, the report said.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are to serve as co-hosts of the awards, which honor 2013's best in film and television.
