'Sound of Music' to be released on DVD and Blu-ray

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., Dec. 9 (UPI) -- The U.S. television special "The Sound of Music Live!" is to be released on DVD Dec. 17, Universal Studios Home Entertainment announced Monday.

The program originally aired on NBC last Thursday and was seen by 18.6 million viewers.

The DVD will include the special, as well as a making-of featurette and interviews with the cast, which includes Carrie Underwood, Stephen Moyer, Audra McDonald, Laura Benanti and Christian Borle.

"Filmed in New York City with a cast that includes Broadway royalty, the joyous and faithful adaptation of the original stage production brings all of the excitement of the theater home, allowing fans to fall in love with Maria and her adorable charges all over again," Universal said in a news release.
