NEW YORK, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Elisabeth Hasselbeck, a former cast member on ABC's "The View," is to begin her job as co-host of "Fox & Friends" in New York Sept. 16, Fox announced Thursday.

Hasselbeck's role will be to "interview key newsmakers, celebrities and politicians," the network said in a news release.

Hasselbeck, 36, will join current co-hosts Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade, who have been with the show since its inception in 1998, EW.com said.

Hasselbeck left her position as co-host of "The View" this summer. She was the show's lone permanent conservative panelist since she first appeared on the series in 2003.
