'Flowers in the Attic' to get small-screen remake

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Ellen Burstyn, Heather Graham, Kiernan Shipka and Mason Dye are to star in a TV movie based on the U.S. novel "Flowers in the Attic," Deadline.com reported.

V.C. Andrews' Gothic horror best-seller follows two brothers and two sisters who are abandoned by their mother and forced to live in secret for years in the attic of their grandparents' mansion after their father's death.

The story is told from the perspective of the older sister Cathy, who will be played by Shipka, an original cast member of TV's "Mad Men," in the Lifetime Original Movie adaptation of "Attic," Deadline.com said.

The book was previously adapted as a movie in 1987. Other novels in the series were "Petals on the Wind," "If There Be Thorns," "Seeds of Yesterday" and "Garden of Shadows."
