Netflix celebrates 14 Emmy Award nominations

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., July 18 (UPI) -- U.S. DVD rental and streaming service Netflix says it is "overwhelmed" three of its original series earned a total of 14 Primetime Emmy Award nominations.

"House of Cards" is up for nine awards, "Arrested Development" is in the running for three and "Hemlock Grove" was mentioned for two.

"We are overwhelmed with 14 nominations and honored by a warm welcome which confirms what we have always believed, that great television is great television regardless of where, when and how it is enjoyed," Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer, said in a statement Thursday. "We are so proud of our series creators and their groundbreaking work on 'House of Cards,' 'Arrested Development' and 'Hemlock Grove.'"

Winners of the Emmy Awards, which honor the year's best in television, are to be announced Sept. 22.
