LOS ANGELES, July 10 (UPI) -- Twentieth Century Fox Television ordered a pilot based on Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's graphic novel "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen," TV Guide said.

Set in 19th-century London, the story follows a group of famous literary characters such as Captain Nemo, the Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and Mina Harker, who band together to thwart a common foe.

Michael Green -- whose previous credits include "Heroes" and "The River" -- will write and executive-produce the TV pilot, TVGuide.com said.

The graphic novel was previously adapted as a 2003 film starring Sean Connery, Stuart Townsend and Shane West as, respectively, Allan Quatermain, Dorian Gray and Tom Sawyer.
