'Breaking Bad' exhibit to open at New York museum

ASTORIA, N.Y., July 11 (UPI) -- An exhibit featuring costumes, props and video material from the soon-to-wrap series "Breaking Bad" is to open at New York's Museum of the Moving Image July 26.

"From Mr. Chips to Scarface: Walter White's Transformation in Breaking Bad" will be on view through Oct. 27.

The museum will present "Making Bad: An Evening with Vince Gilligan" July 27. Gilligan is the show's creator.

Starring Bryan Cranston, "Breaking Bad" returns for the first of its final eight episodes on AMC Aug. 11.

"We are thrilled to present material from this extraordinary and compelling television series, appropriately located in the 'Actor' section of the museum's core exhibition, 'Behind the Screen,'" Barbara Miller, the museum's curator of the collection and exhibitions, said in a statement Wednesday. "The exhibit explores how 'Breaking Bad's' filmmakers used a variety of visual cues to convey Walter White's transformation, including shifts in costume color palette and a series of symbolic props, and features many of the key costumes and props that helped communicate White's character development over the course of the series," Miller said.

Cranston won three consecutive Emmy Awards for Best Actor for his portrayal of Walter White, a mild-mannered chemistry teacher who learns he has inoperable lung cancer and begins producing the drug methamphetamine to insure his family's financial future.
