LOS ANGELES, May 26 (UPI) -- Mariska Hargitay said this weekend she signed up for another season as New York police Detective Benson on NBC's "Law and Order: SUV."

Hargitay's new deal with Universal Television put to rest speculation she could bring down the curtain on her role as the investigator after the show's 14th season wrapped Wednesday, The Hollywood Reporter said.

"Happy weekend. It's official. Season 15--I'll be back," Hargitay tweeted Saturday.

The Reporter said the final episode of the recent season ended with Benson being held hostage by a serial rapist she and her SVU squad had been pursuing. The drama climaxed a season in which "SVU" averaged a 2.1 rating among adult viewers age 18-49, and was a reliable component of NBC's Wednesday prime time lineup.
