'Artist,' 'Descendants' win Eddie awards

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Academy Award-nominated films "The Descendants" and "The Artist" took home top editing honors at the 62nd annual ACE Eddie Awards in Beverly Hills.

Editor Kevin Tent was awarded best edited dramatic feature film for "The Descendants" and editor Anne-Sophie Bion and director Michel Hazanavicius took home the statue for best edited feature, comedy or musical, for "The Artist" Saturday, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

No film has won the best picture Oscar without first having received a best editing Eddie nomination since "Ordinary People" in 1981. Academy Award best picture nominees "Hugo," "Midnight in Paris," "Moneyball" and "War House" also received Eddie nominations, the Reporter said.

"Rango," featuring the voice of Johnny Depp and cut by Craig Wood, won for best edited animated feature. "Freedom Riders," edited by Lewis Erskine and Aljernon Tunsil, was the best edited documentary.

Episodes of "Breaking Bad," "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Homeland" won television editing honors.
