HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- A benefit for the Motion Picture-and-Television Fund in Los Angeles raised $1 million to aid members of the entertainment industry, organizers said.

The Saturday event hosted by Catherine Zeta-Jones at Sony Studios drew about 700 people and celebrated the creative relationship between Hollywood and Broadway.

"We are delighted by the turnout at this spectacular evening," event Chairman Jim Gianopulos said in a written statement.

Zeta-Jones was among the celebrities who took the stage to perform hit songs from musicals that triumphed on both stage and screen. Also belting out numbers were Angela Landsbury, Anne Hathaway, Matthew Morrison and the immortal Carol Channing.

Proceeds from the event will help finance various health and social services the MPTF provides to more than 60,000 show-business workers annually.
