NEW YORK, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- The History channel says Tom Berenger, Powers Boothe and Mare Winningham have joined the cast of its U.S. miniseries "The Hatfields and McCoys."

Berenger will play Jim Vance, Anse Hatfield's Uncle Jim, who was "the firebrand warlord of the Hatfield family," while Boothe will play Wall Hatfield, "Anse's level-headed, fair-minded older brother," who was a justice of the peace and judge in West Virginia, the cable channel said in a news release.

Winningham is to play Sally McCoy, wife of Randall McCoy and matriarch of the Kentucky-side family, "who loses four sons, a daughter and her own sanity in the feud," the release said.

The latest casting additions for the 19th century-set miniseries were revealed Tuesday by Nancy Dubuc, History's president and general manager.

Berenger, Boothe and Winningham will join previously announced cast members Bill Paxton, who will play Randall McCoy, and Kevin Costner, who will play "Devil" Anse Hatfield.

The program will chronicle the bloody hostilities between two American clans that escalated to the point of near war between two states, History said.
