NEW YORK, July 21 (UPI) -- U.S. broadcast journalist Katie Couric is to serve as guest co-host of "The View" for the first time next month, ABC said.

Couric is to appear on the daytime chat show Aug. 3, it was announced Thursday by Bill Geddie, executive producer of "The View." Her appearance coincides with the show's final week of Season 14.

Couric wrapped up a 5-year stint as anchor of the "CBS Evening News" this spring. Before that, she was a longtime co-host of NBC's "Today" show. Couric was replaced by former "View" moderator Meredith Vieira when she left NBC for CBS.

Disney/ABC recently announced it had signed Couric as host and producer of her own 1-hour, nationally syndicated daytime talk show, and that she would be joining the ABC News team.
