Fatal 'Cash Cab' accident investigated

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, July 17 (UPI) -- A pedestrian was killed in Vancouver, Canada, when he was struck by a replica taxi used in the television series "Cash Cab."

Vancouver police said the 61-year-old Surrey resident died at a hospital after being hit on a downtown street this weekend shortly after the vehicle had been used in a production shoot.

"Cash Cab" is a syndicated game show in which unsuspecting passengers hop in and are given a chance to answer questions and win cash during their trip. The cab is not an actual taxi and was not connected to Vancouver's Yellow Cab business.

Constable Lindsey Houghton told Postmedia News no charges had been filed, but the vehicle had been impounded and the investigation was continuing. "There were no witnesses," Houghton said.

The identity of the victim was not released. The series producers issued a statement of condolences and said the driver and crew were "devastated by this tragic accident."
