'Mildred Pierce,' 'Mad Men' lead Emmy Award nods

LOS ANGELES, July 14 (UPI) -- The HBO miniseries "Mildred Pierce" and AMC's "Mad Men" led all comers Thursday when Emmy Award nominations were announced in Los Angeles.

"Mildred Pierce" racked up the most nods with 21 while "Mad Men" earned 19.

The winners are to be announced Sept. 18 at a ceremony to be presided over by comic-actress Jane Lynch.

The nominees for Outstanding Comedy Series are "The Big Bang Theory," "Glee," "Modern Family," "Parks and Recreation" and "30 Rock."

In the running for Outstanding Drama Series are "Boardwalk Empire," "Dexter," "Friday Night Lights," "Game of Thrones," "The Good Wife" and "Mad Men."

Shortlisted for Outstanding Miniseries or Movie are "Cinema Verite," "Downton Abbey," "The Kennedys," "Mildred Pierce," "The Pillars of the Earth" and "Too Big to Fail."

Nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series are Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki for "The Big Bang Theory," Matt LeBlanc for "Episodes," Louis C.K. for "Louie," Steve Carell for "The Office" and Alec Baldwin for "30 Rock."

The nominees for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series Steve Buscemi for "Boardwalk Empire," Michael C. Hall for "Dexter," Kyle Chandler for "Friday Night Lights," Hugh Laurie for "House," Timothy Olyphant for "Justified" and Jon Hamm for "Mad Men."

Shortlisted for the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series are Laura Linney for "The Big C," Melissa McCarthy for "Mike & Molly," Edie Falco for "Nurse Jackie," Amy Poehler for "Parks and Recreation," Martha Plimpton for "Raising Hope" and "Tina Fey" for "30 Rock."

Nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series are Connie Britton for "Friday Night Lights," Julianna Margulies for "The Good Wife," Kathy Bates for "Harry's Law," Mireille Enos for "The Killing," Mariska Hargitay for "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and Elisabeth Moss for "Mad Men."

Vying for the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie are Idris Elba for "Luther," Laurence Fishburne for "Thurgood," William Hurt for "Too Big to Fail," Greg Kinnear and Barry Pepper for "The Kennedys" and Edgar Ramirez for "Carlos."

The contenders for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie are Taraji P. Henson for "Taken From Me: The Tiffany Rubin Story," Diane Lane for "Cinema Verite," Jean Marsh for "Upstairs Downstairs," Elizabeth McGovern for "Downton Abbey" and Kate Winslet for "Mildred Pierce."

Mentioned for the prize for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie are Paul Giamatti and James Woods for "Too Big to Fail," Brian F. O'Byrne and Guy Pearce for "Mildred Pierce" and Tom Wilkinson for "The Kennedys."

Nominated in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie are Maggie Smith and Eileen Atkins for "Downton Abbey," and Evan Rachel Wood, Melissa Leo and Mare Winningham for "Mildred Pierce."
