NEW YORK, June 15 (UPI) -- Former porn film actress and current exotic dancer Ginger Lee, who exchanged sexually explicit messages with U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner, says he should resign.

In a scene only possible in New York or Los Angeles, Lee, represented by celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred, faced dozens of reporters and television cameras Wednesday to comment on her brief cyber-relationship with the embattled New York Democrat.

She read a prepared statement at the news conference at the hallowed Friars Club in midtown Manhattan and took no questions, The New York Times said.

Her statement read: "I think that Anthony Weiner should resign, because he lied to the public and to the press for more than a week. It might never have turned into this if he had told the truth, but he kept lying. If he lied about this, I can't have much faith in him about anything else."

Weiner has taken a leave of absence from Congress to seek psychological treatment for his "sexting" problem. But Lee said while the two exchanged around 100 electronic messages since March, neither had sent the other photos. She indicated she liked Weiner's politics on healthcare and Planned Parenthood.

Weiner, who has been married for 11 months, reportedly exchanged inappropriate explicit messages with as many as six women.
