LONDON, June 5 (UPI) -- Actor Don Hewlett, who played a military officer in the BBC series "It Ain't Half Hot Mum," has died in London at the age of 90, his wife said.
Hewlett had been sick for a some time and died Saturday at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, his wife Therese told the BBC.
Hewlett was best known for his role as commanding officer Lt. Col. Charles Reynolds on "It Ain't Half Hot Mum," which ran on the BBC from 1974-1981.
He made his onscreen career debut in the 1954 film "Orders are Orders," in which he had a small role. He went on to be on numerous television shows, including "The Saint," "The Avengers," "Doctor Who" and "Coronation Street."
Besides his wife, Hewlett is survived by five children, including daughter Siobhan, who is also an actress.
