LOS ANGELES, May 31 (UPI) -- The stormy relationship between U.S. actor Ryan O'Neal and his daughter, actress Tatum O'Neal, is grist for a new reality television series debuting next month.

Among the moments cameras captured on "The O'Neals," debuting next month on Oprah Winfrey's Los Angeles-based cable channel OWN, is the "Love Story" actor goading his daughter, a recovering substance abuser, with liquor, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

"How is your sobriety? I have got a bottle of tequila upstairs with your name on it," he asked Tatum O'Neal, who burst into tears.

"I have family that has suffered from having too much fun," O'Neal said in the first episode.

In 2007, the actor fired gunshots at son Griffin.

"Griffin was a hard case," he said during one camera shoot. "My own son, and I never got along with him very well."

Tatum's relationship with her father disintegrated when he left her mother and began a decades-long dalliance with a number of other actresses, including Farrah Fawcett in the mid-1970s.

"He was my dad. He was supposed to stay with me," she said in the first show's opening minutes, the Post reported.

Tatum said she decided to reconnect with her father after Fawcett died of cancer in 2009.

"He is getting older, has battled leukemia," she said. "And how would I feel if my father were to get sick or die? Would I be OK? And I realized I wouldn't be OK. So I knew I needed to make an effort."
