Actor Trevor Bannister dead at 76

LONDON, April 15 (UPI) -- British television star Trevor Bannister died of a heart attack at his home in Surrey, his family said. He was 76.

The actor's other small-screen credits include "The Avengers," "Dixon of Dock Green," "The Saint," "Z Cars" and "Last of the Summer Wine Most."

The BBC quoted his brother as saying he was repairing a shed when he fell ill. The brother's name was not reported.

Actor Frank Thornton told the British broadcaster he has "many, many happy memories" of his "Served" co-star.

"He was a very good friend over a long time," he said.

"We often met with him and his wife -- he was recently at my 90th birthday celebrations in January and that was the last time we saw him. We shall miss him sorely."

Bannister is survived by his second wife, Pam, and three sons, Simon, Timothy and Jeremy, the BBC said.
