LOS ANGELES, April 12 (UPI) -- Producer Brian Grazer says a big-screen follow-up to the TV thriller series "24" is to open in theaters in 2012 with Kiefer Sutherland again playing Jack Bauer.

The show followed the adventures of Bauer, a U.S. Counter Terrorist Unit agent.

"Got off the phone [with] Keifer yesterday and we are very excited about producing the '24' movie for next year," TVGuide.com said Grazer tweeted Monday.

The Fox show was produced by Grazer and Ron Howard's Imagine Entertainment.

It ran for eight seasons and wrapped up last May.
