"Dancy will star in at least six episodes as Lee, a charming cancer patient who, after a rocky start, befriends Cathy [played by Laura Linney] during their time in an experimental drug trial," Showtime said in a news release Thursday. "Meanwhile, Posey signs on for four episodes playing Poppy, an older woman who develops an unlikely relationship with Cathy's teen-aged son, Adam [played by Gabriel Basso.] Recently announced guest star Alan Alda will play Dr. Atticus Sherman, Cathy's oncologist."

Season 2 of "The Big C" is currently shooting in Stamford, Conn. The show follows Cathy Jamison, a reserved, Minneapolis wife, mother and teacher whose cancer diagnosis forces her to shake up her life and find hope, humor and the light side of a dark situation, Showtime said in a synopsis.
