UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., March 2 (UPI) -- Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and actress Christina Aguilera will be a musician coach on the U.S. competition series, "The Voice," NBC said.

Aguilera joins previously announced musician coaches Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine on the show, which is to premiere April 26.

"Christina has a once-in-a-generation talent -- her voice is phenomenally distinctive and instantly recognizable," Paul Telegdy, executive vice president of alternative programming for NBC and Universal Media Studios, said in a statement Wednesday. "Her journey as an artist, who started so young in the music business, will be an inspiration to the talent she coaches on the show."

"I am so excited to be part of such a wonderful project that celebrates music and the talent behind it," added Aguilera. "To be given the opportunity to help shape new artists' careers and mentor them to see their dreams come to fruition is a task I welcome with open arms. I am so happy to be working with fellow Grammy Award-winners Adam and Cee Lo as I feel there is so much we can all bring to 'The Voice.'"

Aguilera was arrested for alleged public intoxication early Tuesday in West Hollywood, Calif.

She reportedly was arrested alongside her boyfriend, Matthew Rutler, who was charged with driving under the influence after police said they saw him driving erratically.

Aguilera's divorce and hard-partying ways have made headlines in recent months. She also was criticized for getting the words wrong when she sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the Super Bowl in February.
