Yankee broadcaster Kay marries TV anchor

NEW YORK, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- There was plenty of food and star power Saturday night at the New York wedding of Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay and news anchor Jodi Applegate, guests said.

The ceremony took place at The Plaza where big names from Yankeeland and television were liberally sprinkled among the guests.

"It's a great day for Michael Kay," former Yankee Darryl Strawberry told the New York Post. "He waited this long for the right one. It's amazing."

Guests told the newspaper the reception included filet mignon for dinner and a seafood bar presided over by a 6-foot mermaid ice sculpture.

Former Yankee Bernie Williams strapped on his guitar and jammed with the wedding band while the likes of NBC anchor Brian Williams, former Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Yankees co-owner Hal Steinbrenner worked the room.

For the record, the Post said Sunday, Applegate flashed a 14-carat pair of diamond earrings and made three dress changes after wearing a Suzanne Neville white empire gown during the ceremony.
