Korea bans the import and use of illegal drugs such as methamphetamine; Kim allegedly told authorities he smuggled the drug from overseas and regularly used it in violation of the law.

In a message on Twitter, Kim said he is "deeply sorry for those who have been hurt and disappointed in me, including my family members and loved ones."

Kim was a cast member of a popular reality show called "Happy Sunday -- The Qualities of a Man." The show's production team said he would be dropped from the show, and a prerecorded episode to be aired Sunday was edited to remove his part.

Kim also played leading roles in several television dramas, including "What's for Dinner," and "Glory of the Family."

News of his arrested generated a flood of Internet comments, particularly because of the positive public image he maintained, the report said.
