LOS ANGELES, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Scottish comedian Craig Ferguson is planning a "Doctor Who"-themed edition of "The Late Late Show" to welcome the U.K. science-fiction series' star Matt Smith.

Smith, the 11th actor to play the iconic role of The Doctor on the long-running British series, is to appear on an episode of Ferguson's Los Angeles chat show scheduled to air at 12:37 a.m. Wednesday.

"The special edition of the late-night show will also feature a 'Doctor Who'-themed cold open, monologue, e-mail segment with Nerdist Chris Hardwick and, as teased by host Craig Ferguson through his Twitter account (@CraigyFerg), a Dalek," CBS said in a news release.

A Dalek is a type of alien featured on "Doctor Who."
