LONDON, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- British actor Dominic West has been cast in "The Hour," a new six-part drama series set in a 1950s London newsroom, the BBC said Wednesday.
He is to play Hector Madden, the news program's "upper-crust, charismatic" star, the broadcaster said.
Set to air next year, the show will co-star Romola Garai and Ben Whishaw.
West, 41, has starred in the U.S. series "The Wire," as well as in the films "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "Rock Star," "Chicago," "28 Days" and "300."
"The combination of Ben Whishaw, Romola Garai and Dominic West gives us one of the most exciting casts for a British TV series in years," said Ben Stephenson, the BBC's controller of drama commissioning. "Our trio crackle with sexual frisson and will bring 1950s London to life with style and complexity."
