Della Reese to appear on 'Detroit 1-8-7'

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Della Reese has signed up for a guest role on the new police drama series "Detroit 1-8-7," ABC announced Wednesday.

Reese, 79, is an award-winning actress and singer, a Detroit native and an ordained minister in Los Angeles.

She will appear in an episode of "Detroit 1-8-7" set to air Dec. 7.

"Ms. Reese will portray Lorraine Henderson, an urban, working-class mother in her 70s, whose son's body is found in an abandoned fallout shelter," ABC said in a synopsis of the episode. "A young man when he was murdered, Richard Henderson was believed missing since 1967. Reese's casting reflects the producers' continuing effort to showcase Detroit talent."
