Louis-Dreyfus may star in HBO comedy pilot

HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Julia Louis-Dreyfus is under consideration for the starring role in "Veep," a new comedy pilot HBO says it has ordered.

The 49-year-old "Saturday Night Live" alum who starred in "Seinfeld" and "The New Adventures of Old Christine," is in talks for the role of a U.S. senator who becomes vice president, the Hollywood Reporter said Saturday.

"Veep" is being written by veteran British television writer Armando Iannucci and Simon Blackwell. Frank Rich, columnist for The New York Times, is one of the executive producers.

The Reporter said that if a deal works out, Louis-Dreyfus would join fellow "Seinfeld" alum Larry David on HBO. The cable network runs David's "Curb Your Enthusiasm."
