LOS ANGELES, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Showtime said it has ordered a second season of its U.S. lesbian reality series "The Real L Word."

Season 2 will consist of nine episodes and follow a group of women -- some returning from Season 1 and some new -- as they share their personal stories at work and play in the Los Angeles lesbian scene.

Casting for the new cast members is to begin this week and production will begin this year, the network said.

"I'm thrilled and truly excited by the support from Showtime and their desire to really bust it out in the second season. We're looking to tell deeper stories about some of the cast members whom we got to know in Season 1, and to meet some new women whose lives reflect additional facets of lesbian life and experience," executive producer Ilene Chaiken -- who also served as one of the executive producers of the long-running Showtime drama series, "The L Word" -- said in a statement Wednesday.
