'Walking Dead' to get Halloween premiere

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- AMC says it plans to premiere its new U.S. zombie series "The Walking Dead" on Oct. 31, Halloween.

The first episode of the show -- about the weeks and months that follow a pandemic zombie apocalypse -- will be 90 minutes long, the network said Tuesday. Subsequent episodes will be 60 minutes.

Starring Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Jeffrey DeMunn, Norman Reedus and Michael Rooker, the series is based on the comic-book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics.

The show is written, directed and executive produced by Frank Darabont and executive produced by Gale Anne Hurd.
