HBO's 'Boardwalk' to premiere in September

NEW YORK, July 9 (UPI) -- HBO said Friday its new Atlantic City, N.J.-set drama series "Boardwalk Empire" is scheduled to premiere in September.

The show follows the dealings of liquor distribution ring boss at the start of Prohibition. It is based on Nelson Johnson's novel and created by "The Sopranos" scribe Terence Winter. Oscar winner Martin Scorsese directed the pilot and is to serve as executive producer alongside Winter, Tim Van Patten, Stephen Levinson and Mark Wahlberg.

TVGuide.com said the series' premiere date has been set for Sept. 19.

The show stars Steve Buscemi, Michael Pitt, Kelly Macdonald, Michael Shannon, Dabney Coleman, Shea Whigham, Anthony Laciura, Stephen Graham, Aleksa Palladino, Michael Stuhlbarg, Vincent Piazza, Paz de la Huerta, Paul Sparks, Michael Kenneth Williams and Gretchen Mol, the Web site said.
