Drugs, alcohol blamed for Koppel's death

NEW YORK, June 18 (UPI) -- Andrew Koppel, son of noted TV newsman Ted Koppel, died of acute intoxication from alcohol, heroin, cocaine and painkillers, a New York medical examiner ruled.

UsMagazine.com reported the New York medical examiner's findings were announced Friday. His death was ruled an accident, E! News said.

The 40-year-old son of the former ABC News anchor died last month, reportedly after an all-night drinking binge in Manhattan.

The younger Koppel worked as an attorney for the city's Housing Authority and lived in the borough of Queens with his girlfriend and baby daughter.
