NEW YORK, May 18 (UPI) -- NBC Universal is setting up meetings with TNT about possibly airing new episodes of "Law and Order," the New York police procedural NBC canceled last week.

The show ran for 20 seasons and spawned several spinoffs. It is currently tied with "Gunsmoke" as U.S. television's longest-running drama.

Variety said NBC Universal is trying to work out a license fee that might be appealing to TNT, so the cable network can take over the series.

TNT now airs reruns of "L&O."
