LOS ANGELES, May 3 (UPI) -- Lawyers for Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller say the Hollywood couple is not discussing divorce despite media reports to the contrary.

Mueller accused Sheen of assaulting and threatening her in December, and both husband and wife have since spent time in rehab to deal with addiction issues.

Mueller and Sheen have been married about two years and are the parents of twin, toddler sons.

"Since the Dec. 25 incident involving Charlie and Brooke (Mueller) Sheen, the couple have been going through their marital trials and tribulations, and have been the subject of enormous speculation in the media," Charlie and Brooke's respective attorneys, Mark Burg and Yale Galanter, said in a joint statement Monday to E! News.

"Over-speculation, if there is such a word, would be more accurate," the statement said. "Please let us clarify this: They are not seeking a divorce nor has one been contemplated. There has been no financial agreements between the parties of any sort. Stories to the contrary are false. The couple asks that their privacy be respected at this time."
