U.S. version of 'Torchwood' delayed

LONDON, April 23 (UPI) -- Fox has dropped out of a plan to adapt the British science-fiction series "Torchwood" for U.S. television, BBC Worldwide said.

The original version of the drama about a team of special agents who fight alien invaders from a secret base in Cardiff, Wales, airs in the United States on BBC America.

"(Both Fox and the BBC) mutually agreed not to progress together with a 13-episode serialized 'Torchwood' format," BBC Worldwide said in a statement.

However, the BBC also said it is in talks with other networks about remaking the show for U.S. audiences.
