LOS ANGELES, April 13 (UPI) -- The six adult stars of U.S. sitcom "Modern Family" are submitting their names in the supporting actor and actress categories for this year's Emmy Awards.

Ed O'Neill, Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Sofia Vergara made the group decision to compete for the nominations for television's top awards in the supporting categories as opposed to the lead races out of respect for their cast mates, the New York Post said.

O'Neill "felt that nobody is bigger than anybody else in a show that is evolving into a true ensemble hit," a source told Deadline Hollywood.
