LOS ANGELES, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- U.S. comedian Conan O'Brien, who has kept a low profile since he was ousted as host of "The Tonight Show" last month, is bringing his act to Twitter.

NBC booted Jay Leno as host of "Tonight" at the end of last season and gave the position to O'Brien to keep O'Brien from moving to another network. NBC then gave Leno a nightly, hour-long, 10 p.m. series. When the prime-time "Jay Leno Show" failed to be a strong lead-in for local news broadcasts, however, NBC announced it would push Leno's show to 11:35 p.m., shorten it to 30 minutes and air "Tonight" at 12:05 a.m.

O'Brien responded by saying he would not remain on "Tonight" if it was bumped to 12:05 a.m.

NBC then announced O'Brien would leave the network and Leno would return to "Tonight" Monday in its regular 11:35 p.m. time slot. One of the caveats of O'Brien's agreement with NBC was that he cannot start up a new TV show until next fall. said O'Brien Wednesday posted a photo on his Twitter page of himself with a monkey on his back.

"Today I interviewed a squirrel in my backyard and then threw to commercial. Somebody help me," he joked in an accompanying Tweet.

The message attracted nearly 250,000 followers by Thursday morning, noted.

O'Brien's Twitter biography reportedly reads: "I had a show. Then I had a different show. Now I have a Twitter account."
