ASPEN, Colo., Feb. 8 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Charlie Sheen was charged Monday with felony menacing, misdemeanor assault and criminal mischief for allegedly holding a knife to his wife's throat.

The charges stemmed from an alleged Christmas Day altercation with his wife, Brooke Mueller, in Aspen, Colo. The "Two and a Half Men" star is accused of threatening to kill Mueller while holding a knife to her throat.

An Aspen judge Monday announced the charges against Sheen, but also granted the couple's request to have a restraining order lifted so they can live together again with their two young sons, People.com said.

The judge reportedly also restricted Sheen from drinking alcohol, possessing firearms or abusing Mueller.

"Charlie and Brooke kissed and hugged and looked pretty happy to get beyond this hurdle," Mueller's lawyer, Yale Galanter, told the magazine's Web site. "They are on their way home to Los Angeles together."
