Writers Guild to honor Larry David

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- The Writers Guild of America has announced plans to honor television writer and actor Larry David with its 2010 Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for Television.

The New York native is the creator of the small-screen comedy hits "Seinfeld" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm."

To be given at the 2010 Writers Guild Awards' West Coast ceremony Feb. 20 in Los Angeles, the prize honors lifetime achievement for outstanding television writing.

"For a writer who's made a successful career creating hit television shows about 'nothing,' Larry David is truly something among writers," WGAW President John Wells said in a statement. "He has altered the TV comedy landscape and influenced a generation of writers, all the while keeping audiences laughing for two decades by mining comic gold from our most human, awkward, and revealing moments."
