"Wonder" is based on the novel by R.J. Palacio of the same name which follows the story of Auggie, a boy diagnosed with Treacher Collins syndrome, as he navigates a world in which he looks different from other children. Palacio was inspired to write the story after encountering a child with the disease and feeling ill-equipped to explain it to her kids. The story emphasizes kindness in the face of adversity. Author R.J. Palacio's book of the same title has been on the New York Times bestseller list since March 2012 and has sold over 5 million copies. The book has also inspired the "Choose Kind" campaign in classrooms across the globe. The campaign's inspiration comes from a quote in the book that reads, “If you have a choice between being right and being kind, choose kind."
