Actor Jim Caviezel, best known for his portrayal of Jesus Christ in the 2004 film, "The Passion of the Christ," reigns as Bacchus XLIX, as he, and thousands more turned out on Sunday, February 26, 2017, to celebrate Mardi Gras. The Krewe of Bacchus has been rolling on the traditional New Orleans Uptown Mardi Gras route since 1969.
